“Everybody Nose” (2020)

What is this?

Everybody Nose” (2020) is a sketch organised during an online class that wanted to present practice in an immediate way, rather than a simple representation of old work, an avoidance of ‘talking about dancing’ and dancing, as it were. The title is derived from the artist’s fondness of Leonard Cohen as well as the nature of the work. During the Sars-Cov-2 pandemic, noses are almost taboo, a nose resting on top of a mask is a social taboo, to most a display of ignorance and half-measures.

While not expressive parts of the face, they are incredibly important to recognising each other, changing the shape of the nose is as important as changing gait to the disguise artist.

Where would the work go from here?

More. More images, and eventually to take moulds of several noses into sculptures, to see how the nose can transform surface, how unsettling they are, and to be pushed directly into the uncanny.
